Observations from a recent weeklong teaching stint at Poynter:
I’m presenting to about 15 adult learners including designers/editors from the states, including the Cherokee Nation, as well as Denmark, Estonia, Mexico and Liberia. I’m showing pages in Polish from a newspaper I designed in New York City (while on “sabbatical” in Buenos Aires in ’05), a few from a paper I worked with in Dubai last year, as well as ongoing work from an upcoming business publication in Manchester, U.K. I jazz up a Powerpoint presentation with some photos from a safari in Africa (only partly gratuitous – this helped inspire the colour palette for my client there). I notice I’m still wearing a red string bracelet bestowed on me by a Hindu holy man after a dip in the Ganges River, during a vacation in September to the Himalayas. Life is good! Strange, but good!
